Uniform
The Governors at Deanwood believe that maintaining a high standard of appearance through the wearing of uniform is a crucial element of our school. Uniform gives children pride in the school, puts them in the right frame of mind for work and makes them feel part of our community.
The school does not have uniform for sale but elements of our uniform which incorporate the school emblem are available to purchase. The school only holds a sample of stock for sizing purposes. Alternatively, uniform can be purchased at any clothing shop or online here.
We do have a second hand uniform shop run by our PTA who have a supply of items in a variety of sizes. Please ask the office for further information.
Uniform
Our uniform consists of:
- A navy blue sweatshirt, fleece, reversible waterproof fleece or cardigan – with or without school logo
- Pale blue polo T-Shirts with or without logo
- Pale blue school shirt
For Girls:
- Navy blue or grey skirt, trousers and pinafore dresses
- Pale blue or navy blue school summer check dresses
- White socks, or tights in navy blue or grey
For Boys:
- Grey or black trousers, or long school shorts in the summer
PE Uniform
Children will require an appropriate PE kit for PE and games activities. On days their class does PE, children will come to school in their PE kit. Your child’s class teacher will ensure that parents and children are aware of their PE days so that you can plan accordingly. In order to ensure that high standards of school uniform continue to be maintained, it is important that children wear the correct PE kit as follows:
- Plimsoles will be worn for inside games or bare feet. Trainers can be worn for outdoor PE.
- White round neck plain T-shirt
- Navy blue or black PE shorts
- Navy blue or black plain tracksuit bottoms are permitted in the winter
Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. The exceptions to this rule are ear-ring studs in pierced ears or small objects of religious significance. Earrings must be removed for PE and games therefore please do not get your child’s ears pierced during term time. We will ask the children or parents to remove these objects during PE and games.
Footwear
We require all children to wear black school shoes, no trainers, no heels, no boots. Flashing lights on shoes are not acceptable as they can be distracting.
Hair Styles
Children’s hairstyles should be smart and appropriate for school. For the safety and welfare of the children, long hair should be tied back with a plain hairband.
School Meals
Children at Deanwood have the following lunchtime options:
School Meals
Our Main Meals & School Packed Lunches are being prepared by ABM Catering Services. The school meals are very popular and we work closely with our meal provider to ensure that we offer children a range of attractive and healthy lunches. Our menus are constantly under review and we run several themed weeks throughout the year. The cost of a school meal £2.55 per day payable in advance via Arbor.
ABM Catering Services believe that it is very important that every child can receive a balanced and wholesome meal irrespective of their dietary requirements. For this reason they have devised a procedure for special diets, which is outlined in the information below.
All children in Reception Class and Key Stage 1 are entitled to a free school lunch.
Some parents of children in Key Stage 2 may be eligible to claim free school meals for their child, further details are available from the school office or by contacting Student Services Operations at Medway Council on 01634 331155 or by applying via this link
Packed Lunches
Packed lunches can be brought in from home and should consist of a healthy lunch with no fizzy drinks or glasses bottles included.
Home Lunches
Children going home for lunch should return to school for registration at 1pm for KS1 and 1.20pm for KS2.
